Kid Karnival snaps him out of it and tells him about how he admires the Joker and how he wouldn’t let anyone stand in his way, giving the Joker his confidence back to fight. When Psimon gives his speech, the Joker chucks a stone at the back of his head, stunning him. He then picks up a larger rock and pins Psimon to the ground, giving him a speech on his views on survival and beats him to death with the rock, destroying his brain in the process, proceeding to take command as chief. Lex Luthor questions his leadership and sends Iron Cross after the Joker with the intent of killing him. Iron Cross is killed by the Joker, upon which Splitshot attempts to kill him to avenge Iron Cross, but is eventually killed as well, being strangled by his own bow.
Before Bruce became Batman, the Red Hood was hired by a pre-Riddler Nygma to attack Bruce Wayne, leading to him becoming a fixation. After a fight with Batman, the criminal purposely threw himself into the vat of chemicals, though a body was later recovered but could not be identified. (#7-12) re-imagines the Joker as a gifted criminal and abandons the Red Hood identity, also called Jack, who is nearly suicidal due to boredom with his “job”. He talks to a waitress, Harleen Quinzel, who convinces him to find something to live for. Jack becomes obsessed with Batman after he breaks up one of his jobs, leading Jack to attract Batman’s attention at a ball.
However, with Batman foiling his every comically-ridden crime, he feels he may never get that chance, so he attempts constantly to prove himself to Batman as special, so maybe the Dark Knight will leave him be. This is a false hope, however, as Batman will always be there to rid the city of turmoil, no matter how much pain it causes the Joker. Batman battles the Joker, but he and his allies are subdued by Joker’s lethal gas. Batman finds a cave rigged with Joker’s explosives and housing a pool of Dionesum, the healing fluid that grants Joker his regenerative abilities. As the cave begins to collapse, he & Batman battle, gravely wounding each other.
During the final battle with the Dark Knights, joker appeared to help Batman fight The Batman Who Laughs. It is revealed that Bruce Wayne had been exposed to the Dionesium pool being restored to life with no memory of his previous life. While this is all going on Gotham in under siege by an onslaught created by a criminal known as Mister Bloom who Batman had faced before. Thanks to his is talk with the smiling stranger Bruce Wayne realizes he is Batman and forces Alfred Pennyworth to restore to use a machine Batman designed to turn a clone of him into the next Batman. Batman travels to Gotham Presbyterian hospital to research the first recorded infection, but finds an infected Joe Chill, and a recreation of the night Batman’s parents died, revealing the Joker knows his identity. Meanwhile, James Gordon researches the hospital and finds images appearing to be the Joker, taken decades before the Joker’s first encounter with Batman.
Superman has to steal Batman’s memories so that he can go on, apparently transferring them to the Joker. Ledger’s casting as the Joker was initially controversial but it is now considered his finest performance; Ledger himself regarded it as his most enjoyable. When the film was released in July 2008, six months after Ledger died of an accidental overdose, the performance received widespread acclaim and numerous posthumous accolades, including the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. The entire United States declares war on the Joker under the orders of President Lex Luthor; in response, Joker sends his minions to kill the President. The Joker also murdered Jason Todd, the second Robin, in the story “A Death in the Family.” Jason Todd discovers that a woman who may be his birth mother is being blackmailed by the Joker. She betrays her son to keep from having her medical supply thefts exposed, leading to Jason’s brutal beating by the Joker with a crowbar. The Joker locks Jason and his mother in the warehouse where the assault took place and blows it up just as Batman arrives. Readers could vote on whether they wanted Jason Todd to survive the blast.
Instead, they used certain elements of the Joker lore to produce an original story, which Phillips wanted to feel as authentic as possible. “It’s just another interpretation, like people do interpretations of Macbeth,” he told The New York Times. However, they did try to retain the ambiguous “multiple choice” nature of the Joker’s past by positioning the character as an unreliable narrator—with entire storylines simply being his delusions—and left what mental illnesses he suffers from unclear. According to the Joker himself, the three most common origin stories are that he was failed comedian who could never make an audience laugh, a mob killer named Napier from outside Gotham City, and of course, the Red Hood story recounted in The Killing Joke. But I understand that the story continues with the joker being rescued by his followers from the psychiatric hospital.. So I’m guessing there’s plenty of room to do a sequel, and hopefully another great Batman vs Joker afterwards, with this kind of look and darkness, such as the trilogy from Christopher Nolan that we loved so much. As a starting actor, Heath Ledger did not attach himself seriously to the roles he was playing.
From the media, to the films and his relationship with the Dark Knight, the Joker’s personality could be the obvious. The Joker is a homicidal, psychopathic, ruthless, sadistic, maniacal, insane, manipulative, intelligent and diabolical lunatic and master criminal who wants nothing but chaos and anarchy wherever he goes, as well as reveling in the suffering of others. In the beginning of the Batman R.I.P. arc Batman visits the Joker in Arkham for information on the group known as the Black Glove.
Phoenix revealed that Arthur’s dance was inspired by that of Ray Bolger, while the gesture making smile by two fingers was from scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz. Sophie attends Arthur’s stand-up routine, which goes poorly; he laughs uncontrollably and his jokes fall flat. Arthur intercepts a letter from Penny to Thomas, alleging that he is Thomas’s illegitimate son, and berates his mother for hiding the truth. He goes to Wayne Manor, where he meets Thomas’ young son Bruce, but flees after a struggle with the family butler Alfred Pennyworth. Arthur’s idol, popular late-night talk show host Murray Franklin, mocks Arthur by showing clips of his failed performance, calling him a “joker”, angering Arthur. Arthur sneaks into a private event at a film theater and confronts Thomas, who tells him that he is not his father and that Penny is not his biological mother.
Additionally, Landmark Theaters prohibited moviegoers from wearing Joker costumes during its run, while the Los Angeles and New York City Police Departments increased police visibility at area theaters, though they did not receive “any specific threat.” In a behind-the-scenes video, Phillips explained that Arthur’s normal face is the real mask and the Joker is the true personality. He also said, in LA Times interview, that the genuine laugh of Arthur is only in the last scene. Director Todd Phillips said that he intentionally left it ambiguous as to whether Arthur becomes the Joker of traditional Batman stories or inspires a separate character, although Phoenix believes that Arthur is the former. Budget was covered by the Toronto-based financing company Creative Wealth Media, while Village Roadshow Pictures and Bron Studios each contributed 25%.
