In The Killing Joke, the Joker shoots Barbara Gordon (a.k.a. Batgirl), paralyzing her below the waist. He kidnaps Commissioner Gordon and taunts him with photographs of what he has done to Barbara, in an attempt to prove that any man can have “one bad day” and become just like him, but fails to drive Gordon insane, despite giving him some serious trauma.
During the return of new villain Hush to Gotham City, The Riddler hires the Joker to save him, offering the Joker the name of the crooked cop who killed his wife all those years ago. During an investigation into Batman’s activities, Hal Jordan and Duke Thomas discovered and accidently released him, leading to a brief fight between the trio. Joker revealed that Batman was investigating metals, specifically Dionesium and Nth Metal, and he needed to be stopped before it was too late.
Additionally, his suit colors were compared with those of his antagonists, including Thomas Wayne, giving them to gray and blue like Batman. Warner Bros. pushed for Phillips to cast Leonardo DiCaprio as the Joker, hoping to use his frequent collaborator Scorsese’s involvement to attract him. According to the Joker himself, the three most common origin stories are that he was failed comedian who could never make an audience laugh, a mob killer named Napier from outside Gotham City, and of course, the Red Hood story recounted in The Killing Joke. But I understand that the story continues with the joker being rescued by his followers from the psychiatric hospital.. So I’m guessing there’s plenty of room to do a sequel, and hopefully another great Batman vs Joker afterwards, with this kind of look and darkness, such as the trilogy from Christopher Nolan that we loved so much. As a starting actor, Heath Ledger did not attach himself seriously to the roles he was playing.
